I challenge any scientist, educator, business person, celebrity, politician, astrologer, physicist - anyone actually - to explain to me how life can work for life itself - for every human being and the earth - without each of us placing conditions on our expression and demands.
To live with conditional expression – the way of life that puts life first by rejecting the things which are abusive to life – is to make real or embody the Word of God.
Which can also be described as the Word of Life. Or as the wisdom life has revealed to us so that we will take better care of it. So, we will keep life sacred.
Which, in turn, means to honour God more than anything else.
It is God – or life – telling us clearly, for the last time, we are not permitted to abuse life for any reason.
Not in the name of economics and not in the name of progress. Not in the name of anything.
We are to put life first in all our doings and expressions.
In truth, this has been our singular, most important instruction since the beginning of time. As I stated, it is the Word of God, and was first given to us when life first took its physical form.
But the instructions given to us on how to care for life, by life itself, were rejected. And life suffers as it does today.
I first began sharing God’s word in its current form in 2013.
What does this mean?
Life did not want to collapse.
It tried to throw itself a lifeline.
Everything in the conditional expression library (click here to visit) can be considered testimony by God – or Life – to the abuse he was suffering.
It also gives insight into the nature of this abuse, providing revelation and insight into how and why so many of contemporary humanity’s behaviours have impacted on the dignity, vibrancy and vitality of life.
There is great irony in the fact – as you can imagine – that most of the things disintegrating God’s health are, or were, considered positive and essential characteristics of a contemporary life well-lived.
How do we know the things we have been doing have been destroying the health and dignity of life?
There are two key items of evidence.
The wisdom we have been handed down through time by a variety of sources told us of the things that would be abusive to life.
Making these sources and their form of communication, now that we know God is real, official documentation of what life will and will not consent to.
Again, how ironic, that a world obsessed with issues surrounding consent, and destroying those responsible for violations without consent, has been both intense and ferocious in its own violations of something sacred, without that identity’s consent.
In fact, not only was there an absence of consent for our abuse, but there was also clear instruction not to be abusive.
The other evidence is physical.
Here I speak of the state of our world.
This includes the presence of a virus ripping its way through humanity. For the record, life does not want to rely on vaccines to keep it going, it wants to feel well.
This includes the evidence provided by a traumatised earth.
The evidence provided by the children who die hungry and with swollen bellies, in their mother’s arms.
And through the psychological mess we call a mental health crisis.
We put our faith and trust in science. Not in the life we belong to, not in God.
We did not love for love’s sake. We did not treat life as sacred because we wanted to honour it.
We smashed it while the going was good, and it ended up smashed.
Incredibly, science is now able to tell us we have messed life up badly.
Faith, trust and love was never about caring for something after it is broken. It is about caring for it because you love it and never want it to be broken.
That is what God wanted.
He wanted us to love and care for life because that is what he asked us to do.
He wanted us to put conditions on our expression and demands so life – he – could feel well.
You know what was the most common reply I received when sharing the notion of conditional expression?
‘No one wants conditions put on their expression or on the way they live!’’
Of course – and that’s why life collapsed.
Because of the unlimited and unsustainable abuse of a society that did not want any limitations or restrictions put on it. A society that valued fame, wealth and influence – and individual legacy, success and greatness – over the nourishment and care of the life it belonged to.
A society that today complains of the unprecedented times it now faces, because of the unprecedented abuse it has inflicted on life.
Of course, there was no such concern and outrage in defence of those who went hungry because our earth, the resource everyone relies on to exist, could not manage the high-income world’s obsession with unlimited individual dreams and desires.
Sure, many people are changing or considering change…
Now!
We see the wounds, so we believe we should care.
In truth, even seeing the wounds was not enough. We have known life was hurting for a long time.
And we watched on, tending to our individual dreams and desires – our abuse – until life stopped!
To live with conditional expression has been God’s instruction to us since the beginning of time. Meaning, I love you unconditionally and will defend your honour and sacredness, by saying ‘no’ to the things which abuse you.
Unconditional love is given. End of story. It is pre-abuse, and pre-wounds because it wants to keep the sacred object of its love free from harm.
We will never get the chance in our lifetime of showing life we loved it out of love alone.
We will go down in history as the era who began caring for life after we broke its back.
I mentioned at the beginning of this piece that conditional expression – in its various forms – is the timeless Word of God. Which it is.
But what are the other forms in which it has come into our world previously.
What follows are five different forms of conditional expression. We can call them ambassadors or teachers if we like. But regardless of how we might view them, one thing remains undisputed.
Each hold that we should treat life as sacred and reject the things that abuse life. That is to say, we should be prepared to put conditions on our expression and demands if we wish to honour and treat life as it has asked to be honoured and treated.
We will count down, five to one, though the numbers in no way suggest a hierarchy.
Number Five – The Story of Adam and Eve
The premise behind the story of Adam and Eve is simple. Do not take, use, or apply something, just because you can.
Or because it is likely to lead to personal profit or reward.
Or because it might satisfy a curiosity or a desire for pleasure.
Not if it is contradictory to the conditions life needs to thrive.
Because if you do, the balance of life must be destroyed. Life in its entirety will never feel well and the door will have been opened to all manner of suffering.
This story is telling us that to preserve life, and take care of its health, we will need to put conditions on our behaviour if we are to keep life sacred.
Number Four – Yoga
To live with conditional expression is the real yoga.
Yoga alludes to a merging or unification with God. Or, if you prefer, our becoming one with God.
It is the journey to this place.
Unfortunately for God, in his physical form it is impossible for us not to be. The fact that we exist means we exist in God. We are his body, and he must experience everything we do and express.
We are born; therefore, we are!
So, the actual practice of yoga, then, becomes the practice of living in a way that acknowledges this oneness in the first instance, and then honours it by taking up the challenge – the epic challenge – of living in a manner that upholds the health and integrity of that body.
God’s body.
Sacred yogic scriptures such as the Bhagavad Gita tell of this epic battle we all face.
How do I overcome all the temptations, desires and illusions that stop me from becoming a part of God’s body that is nourishing and supportive?
There is only one way?
Saying ‘no’ to the things which are abusive.
Living so that who you are is supportive of life.
In the Bhagavad Gita we see God in the form of Krishna, telling the humble and courageous warrior Arjuna – who represents us - that the only way to experience complete oneness with God is through genuinely sourcing all action in what is best for God.
Which, in the human experience, is our collective human life.
This needs both the awareness and knowledge of the nature and truth of our relationship and union with all life and then our acting upon this wisdom.
Knowing we are a part of all life is great. But our knowing this is of no benefit to life. Life only benefits when we live and act in a manner that honours it as sacred.
For real!
When we give God what he has asked for.
Yoga, just as the other forms God’s word of conditional expression takes, tell us the same thing. It is not meant to be easy.
Which is why each has asked that we make the foundation of all we do, life itself. Or, God, if you prefer.
Conditional expression asks, ‘Life or God, what is it you need from us?’
And then sets about offering it.
That is the yoga. That is the love. That is the Gita.
The actual living of conditional expression.
Becoming one with God in a manner that is supportive.
Number Three – Muhammad
I have had a long and deep-felt admiration for the prophet Muhammad – peace be upon him - and the teachings of Islam.
There were two key components to God’s revelations to Muhammad.
God told Mohammad of the oneness of God. And, secondly, that we were to submit to God’s will and wishes.
Here, God explains to Muhammad the oneness of all life, adding that it is his instruction, that is God’s instruction, that we live our lives in a manner which honours the sacredness of that life.
Meaning, say ‘no’ to the things which will abuse it.
Meaning, be prepared to put conditions on your expression and demands so that God is honoured, or, in other words, the needs of life are met.
Not as we would like to meet those needs – by covering ourselves in glory, leaving a legacy and promoting our awesomeness to the world.
But by giving life what it really needs.
One can see clearly how tension could arise between the Islamic world and a world which built itself upon a foundation of unbridled capitalism.
It is at the heart of Islam to defend and honour the sacred body of God.
It was the way of capitalism to destroy it.
While extremists of Islam used terrorist tactics to wage war on the capitalist world, one must wonder if God considered our approach to life as a form of terrorism itself.
No doubt, there is no religious or spiritual path that has fully brought honour to God. Because a label cannot.
But we can see that whenever God has intervened in our world or communicated with one of his sacred messengers – the message has always been the same.
Honour life as sacred by saying no to the things which abuse it.
Or, to make it real and personal, put conditions on your expression and demands so that who you are – that is each one of us – is supportive of life’s needs.
Number Two – The Ten Commandments
The Ten Commandments were a list of instructions and guidelines handed down to Moses and the Jewish communities at Mount Sinai.
It was a list of things we should not do if we were to honour the most essential commandment – honour no other god but me.
Now that we know God to be real – which is to say we know life to be real – we can understand these instructions as a formal document handed to us by God – or life - telling us how he wants to be treated.
So, if we engage in those behaviours they are done without God’s consent, and against his wishes.
And remember, God identifies with and experiences physical, psychological, and energetic abuse. So, the commandments have the purpose of safeguarding life against all three types of abuse.
Of course, we being parts of God’s body, they also safeguard us.
If we commit the abuse, the abuse belongs to us. And God by nature of our association - our inescapable oneness - with him.
Long story short?
We get away with nothing. And neither does God, or life.
If we are doing it. God is experiencing it.
Because it is happening to him.
So, the Ten Commandments are a sacred list of instructions handed to us by God telling us of the conditions we must put on our behaviour if we are to honour life as sacred.
Telling us to live with conditional expression.
So, life can feel well!
Remember, God being real, makes the Commandments a formal document of consent.
Number One – Jesus
Jesus was the ultimate teacher and ambassador for conditional expression.
He taught of the oneness of God and that we should honour God through our being, as opposed to through our words or the creation of certain public personas.
He taught us to be gentle on life because he knew that life to be God, and that the gentle approach - conditional expression - would one day inherit the earth.
And who could argue?
How can life ever work for life itself – or God - without us tending to its needs before our own.
Jesus told us not to get so attached to the spoils of the physical world, that we would become abusive to the body of God, which he loved more than his own life.
As he proved.
He knew he could never control the traumas and abuse that happened to him.
But he knew he could control how he happened to the world. It was his capacity for care, or abuse, which concerned him most.
Which is why he chose to reject the temptations of fame, wealth and fortune. The temptations our contemporary world cannot get enough of. And, in fact, pursue wholeheartedly.
What was important to him was that he did not abuse the life he belonged to – physically, psychologically, or energetically.
He did not advertise or promote his healing powers because he did not want people to think our being human needed healing.
He knew this would lead to the psychological mess which cripples humanity today.
He chose not to hate and judge those who had abused him and others, as that would mean he was bringing hate and judgment into a life he loved unconditionally.
He wanted us to find lightness and liberation in our humanity. Not dissatisfaction and disturbance because it did not meet our individual dreams and desires regarding lifestyle and pleasure.
More than anything else, he wanted life to feel well.
He also knew the only way to honour life, the only way to merge with life in a manner that was beneficial to that life – God’s life - was through his conditional expression.
By rejecting the things that would abuse it.
If we want to be like Jesus, we must live with conditional expression.
That what he taught and demonstrated.
And what God has instructed.
I have put Jesus as number one because he is respected by the religious and non-religious alike for who he was.
He is a respected prophet of Islam, the foundation for Christianity and the greatest yogi that ever lived. Based on what yoga asks of us.
But his teachings were not restricted by any such labels.
He said he was the way.
That the way to honour life as sacred and to become one with God was to live as he did.
In his eyes, there was no other way. Because we are each an actual part of God’s body. And only by giving that body what it needs can we be of benefit to it.
Jesus predicted the demise of our world saying one day we would realise we did not have faith in him at all, and that the self-righteous would come to understand how damaging they have been to life.
He said a time would come when we would be given the ‘evidence’ that proves he was right.
That time has come.
The evidence given to us by God.
‘You are the cells of my body!’
This is what Jesus ‘knew’ and what we now know.
Life – God's life - is of both energetic and physical form. And we cannot hide the quality of our expression.
If it is toxic and poisonous, it is toxic and poisonous.
As is the case with the cells in our own bodies, we can be supportive of the life we belong to, or damaging.
It is the way of conditional expression to be supportive. It is the way of conditional expression to put life first.
It is through our conditional expression that our love for life is made complete.
This is why Jesus lived the way he did.
He wanted to make his love for God, which represented his love for life, complete.
And this could only be done in his physical lifetime through his conditional expression. By being what God needed.
The Wrap
Conditional expression is what makes our love for life – our love for God – complete.
It is the way now; it was the way in the beginning, it has always been the way.
It is what the story of Adam and Eve told us, it is what yoga tells us, it is what Islam tells us, it is what the Ten Commandments tell us, and it is what Jesus told us.
It is also how Jesus lived.
And it is what God has told us.
Why?
Because it is what God needs.
And it was the only way we were ever going to help God, or life, avoid the suffering he is experiencing today.
It is the truth that whenever God has intervened with our world, to pass down instructions, he – or life - have been saying the same thing, every time.
Put conditions on your expression and demands so that who you are honours me.
God is never late.
Or ahead of his time.
Conditional expression was not God’s gift to us. It tells us not to put ourselves before the sacredness of life.
It was his own gift to himself.
It was life trying to save itself.
A lifeline.
One last shot at avoiding the virus which has ripped his body apart.
If we are sick, God is sick.
It was only our conditional expression which was ever going to work if we were to safeguard the sanctity of life.
But, typical of who we are, we reject the form this message comes in, because we do not approve of the form or messenger.
But this time God wins.
He is not relying on faith and belief anymore.
He has told us who he is.
Life!
And told us what we are.
Continue to abuse the life we all belong to if you wish. But that is between you and life. Life – God – knows you exactly as you are.
You will not experience hate or judgement from me, for I will not bring these energetic poisons into the body of God.
Life is already sick enough from our collective physical, psychological, and energetic abuses without me adding to it.
Life knows each of us intimately.
And it will know if we are responsible for abuse, or whether we are being supportive, by saying no to the opportunities that would bring it harm.
It has no choice but to experience whatever it is we are. For we belong to that life.
But know that it neither wants us to, nor has it given us any permission to, harm it.
This has been true since the beginning of time.
Because that is when we were first told to live with conditional expression. To put conditions on our expression so that we kept life sacred.
And by honouring God more than anything else, making our own love complete in this lifetime.
Ending any need we would have for rebirth and gifting ourselves that most precious of gifts – eternal life!
And so, it is.
Amen.
